কে মোহাম্মদ হোসেন রিজভী  : ঢাকা থেকে প্রকাশিত দৈনিক মাতৃজগত পত্রিকার ২৩তম প্রতিষ্ঠাবার্ষিকী উপলক্ষে সাংবাদিকদের সুরক্ষা নিশ্চিতকরণ শীর্ষক আলোচনা সভা, দোয়া মাহফিল ও কেক কাটার মধ্য দিয়ে ব্যাপক উৎসাহ-উদ্দীপনায় প্রতিষ্ঠাবার্ষিকী উদযাপন করা হয়েছে। শনিবার (২৬ সেপ্টেম্বর) দিনব্যাপী রাজধানীর মিরপুর ন্যাশনাল কলেজের অডিটোরিয়ামে এ অনুষ্ঠানের আয়োজন করা হয়। অনুষ্ঠানে রাজনীতিবিদ,দেশের বিভিন্ন গণমাধ্যমের সম্পাদক, প্রকাশক, সাংবাদিক, সামাজিক ও সাংস্কৃতিক অঙ্গনের বিশিষ্ট ব্যক্তিরা উপস্থিত ছিলেন।

অনুষ্ঠানে সভাপতিত্ব করেন জাতীয় দৈনিক মাতৃজগত-এর সম্পাদক ও সেন্ট্রাল প্রেসক্লাবের প্রতিষ্ঠাতা সভাপতি খান সেলিম রহমান। অনুষ্ঠান উদযাপন কমিটির আহ্বায়ক ও ঢাকা প্রেসক্লাবের সভাপতি আওরঙ্গজেব কামালের সার্বিক তত্ত্বাবধানে অনুষ্ঠানে বিভিন্ন পর্যায়ের সাংবাদিক ও অতিথিরা অংশগ্রহণ করেন। প্রতিষ্ঠাবার্ষিকীর আলোচনায় সাংবাদিকদের নিরাপত্তা, পেশাগত মর্যাদা, স্বাধীনভাবে দায়িত্ব পালনের পরিবেশ, সাংবাদিকদের মধ্যে ঐক্য এবং গণমাধ্যমের দায়িত্বশীল ভূমিকার বিভিন্ন দিক উঠে আসে।
আলোচনা সভায় বক্তারা সাংবাদিকদের দায়িত্ব পালনের ক্ষেত্রে নিরাপদ পরিবেশ নিশ্চিত করার প্রয়োজনীয়তার ওপর গুরুত্ব দেন। একই সঙ্গে সাংবাদিকদের পেশাগত ঐক্য সুদৃঢ় করা, মতপার্থক্য থাকলেও পারস্পরিক সম্মান বজায় রাখা এবং সাংবাদিকতার মানোন্নয়নে সবাইকে দায়িত্বশীল ভূমিকা পালনের আহ্বান জানানো হয়। অনুষ্ঠানে বলা হয়, সাংবাদিকদের নিরাপত্তা ও মর্যাদা নিশ্চিত করা গেলে গণমাধ্যম আরও দায়িত্বশীল ও কার্যকরভাবে মানুষের কথা তুলে ধরতে পারবে।

আলোচনা সভা শেষে দেশ, জাতি, সাংবাদিক সমাজ ও গণমাধ্যমের কল্যাণ কামনা করে দোয়া ও মোনাজাত অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। পরে কেক কাটার মধ্য দিয়ে দৈনিক মাতৃজগত-এর ২৩তম প্রতিষ্ঠাবার্ষিকীর আনুষ্ঠানিকতা সম্পন্ন করা হয়। দিনব্যাপী এ আয়োজনে সাংবাদিক, গণমাধ্যমকর্মী ও আমন্ত্রিত অতিথিদের মধ্যে উৎসবমুখর পরিবেশ সৃষ্টি হয়।
অনুষ্ঠান সঞ্চালনা করেন রফিকুল ইসলাম কাজল ও সাংবাদিক পলাশ। অনুষ্ঠান শেষে বিশিষ্ট ব্যক্তিদের বিশেষ সম্মাননা প্রদান করেন অতিথিরা। সাংস্কৃতিক অনুষ্ঠানের মধ্য দিয়ে অনুষ্ঠানটি পরিসমাপ্তি ঘটে।

Demand for Ensuring Journalists’ Safety as Daily Matrijagat Celebrates 23rd Founding Anniversary
Own Correspondent: The 23rd founding anniversary of national daily Matrijagat was celebrated in the capital with a series of colorful programmes, emphasizing the need to ensure journalists’ professional safety and dignity, create an environment where they can perform their duties independently, strengthen unity among journalists, and promote a responsible role for the mass media.
The day-long programme was held on Saturday, September 26, at the auditorium of Mirpur National College in the capital. The programme included a discussion meeting, prayers and supplications, cake cutting, special awards, and a cultural event. Politicians, editors and publishers of various media outlets, journalists, lawyers, police officials, businesspeople, social workers, cultural personalities, and distinguished representatives from different professions attended the event.
At the beginning of the programme, the issue of journalists’ safety and professional dignity received particular attention. Speakers said that all concerned parties must play a responsible role so that journalists do not face fear, pressure, harassment, or unsafe situations while collecting and reporting news.
Chairman Khan Selim Rahman said that the 23-year journey of Daily Matrijagat has been closely associated with the love and support of journalists, readers, and well-wishers. He said the long journey of a media organization is not limited to celebrating its anniversary; it also carries responsibilities toward society and the people. He expressed his commitment to continuing the newspaper’s tradition of objective and responsible journalism.
Awrangzeb Kamal, Convener of the Anniversary Celebration Committee and President of Dhaka Press Club, said journalists must work together to ensure their professional dignity and safety. “There may be differences of opinion, but mutual respect and unity among journalists are essential in the interest of the profession,” he said. He added that if a safe working environment can be ensured for journalists, the media will be able to raise the voices and concerns of the people more effectively.
A. B. M. A. Razzaq, Joint Convener of BNP Dhaka Metropolitan North, said the government is paying special attention to the welfare of journalists and working to ensure their freedom to practice journalism. He said journalists work on various irregularities, social problems, and people’s rights, and therefore their safety must be ensured while performing their professional duties. He also stressed the importance of coordination among journalists, media organizations, and other concerned stakeholders.
Politician Shamsul Mostafa Shamim Majumdar said, “Whenever BNP has been in power, the country has experienced development.” He also referred to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s participation in international forums and said Bangladesh’s position in the international arena could be understood from such engagements. He emphasized that professional unity among journalists is highly important and that journalists should respect one another despite personal or organizational differences.
Talukder Rumi, member of the National Press Club and Editor of Daily Panjeri, said the government is working to protect people’s rights. He said the core strength of journalism lies in truth, objectivity, and responsibility. Alongside following professional ethics in news gathering and publication, the safety of journalists must also be given due importance. He called for coordinated initiatives by media organizations and journalist associations to protect the dignity of journalists.
Sheikh Mustafizur Rahman, Secretary General of the Press Club Federation, said stronger unity among journalists would make it possible to raise issues of professional rights and safety more effectively. He stressed the need for responsible participation by all concerned parties in ensuring a safe working environment for journalists.
Ahmed Abu Jafar, Chairman of the Trustee Board of the Mofussil Journalists Forum, said journalists working at the grassroots level regularly face various challenges while collecting news and often have to perform their duties at considerable risk. He called for effective measures to prevent harassment and attacks against journalists and emphasized the need for a united position to protect their professional rights and safety.
Md. Delwar Hossain, General Secretary of Dhaka Press Club and Chairman of the Journalists’ Protection Welfare Foundation, said journalists’ safety is not an issue concerning only an individual or organization; rather, it concerns the entire media sector. He said journalist organizations, media institutions, law enforcement agencies, and all other relevant stakeholders need to work together to ensure journalists’ safety.
M. A. A. Sourav Khan said Daily Matrijagat has been delivering news to readers for 23 years and that journalists, readers, and well-wishers have all contributed to this long journey. He expressed hope that the newspaper would continue its efforts to highlight the concerns and voices of the people through responsible journalism.
Lion Md. Helal Uddin Hilu emphasized increasing mutual cooperation for the professional dignity and welfare of journalists. He said greater unity and cooperation among journalists would create more opportunities to work effectively on their various problems and demands.
Md. Shihab Uddin, Member Secretary of the Anniversary Celebration Committee, said, “We have always been working for the welfare of journalists. What we need now is everyone’s cooperation. If we remain united, we will certainly be able to achieve our goals.”
The second session of the 23rd founding anniversary programme was presided over by Khan Selim Rahman, Editor of Daily Matrijagat and Founding President of Central Press Club. The event was conducted under the overall supervision of Awrangzeb Kamal, Convener of the Anniversary Celebration Committee and President of Dhaka Press Club.
The programme began with the recitation of the Holy Quran. This was followed by discussions on journalists’ safety, professional dignity, an environment conducive to independent journalism, unity among journalists, and the responsible role of the mass media.

Speakers said that the long journey of a media organization is not limited to celebrating its anniversary. It carries responsibilities toward readers, journalists, and society. Alongside objectivity, truthfulness, and responsibility in news reporting, ensuring journalists’ professional safety is also extremely important.
They said journalists collect news from the field while facing various challenges. Therefore, media organizations, journalist associations, law enforcement agencies, and all other concerned parties need to play a coordinated role in protecting journalists’ safety and professional dignity. Speakers also emphasized building greater professional unity among journalists by reducing divisions and differences.
Following the discussion, prayers and supplications were offered for the welfare of the country, the nation, journalists, and the media community. Later, the guests cut a cake to mark the 23rd founding anniversary of Daily Matrijagat.
The programme was moderated by Rafiqul Islam Kajal and journalist Palash. At the concluding session, special awards were presented to distinguished individuals for their contributions in various fields. The day-long celebration concluded with a cultural programme.
Earlier, international representatives of the World International Press Club also joined the programme virtually. From Pakistan, the organization’s Central Committee Vice President addressed the event. From Sri Lanka, Ranga Bandaranayake, President of the Sri Lanka Working Journalists Association and Vice President of the World International Press Club, joined virtually. From Nepal, Kiran Kumar Pokharel, Vice President of the organization, participated. The organization’s Secretary General Mian Ishtiaq Ali joined from Pakistan. From India, Samaresh Ray, Organizing Secretary, and Shampa Das, Women’s Affairs Secretary, also joined the programme.
The international representatives said they remain united in their commitment to ensuring the safety and security of journalists worldwide and emphasized the importance of global solidarity among journalists.
